Thermometers above 20 degrees after sunset: the number of "tropical nights" is increasing in Sardinia

In Italian cities , the annual number of "tropical nights" is increasing, i.e., in meteorology, the nights during which the temperature never drops below 20°C , one of the parameters that are monitored also in consideration of global warming and climate change. And, according to the latest Istat report, Oristano and Cagliari are among the cities where the most evident anomalies have been recorded in recent years.
The data analyzed are those relating to 2021 and, writes the Institute of Statistics, «the indices of extreme weather and climate temperatures show increases for almost all the provincial capitals, where on average there are 120 summer days (+4 compared to the 2006 period). -2015) and 44 tropical nights (+6 over the observed decade). The increase in tropical nights affects 84 cities, in particular Oristano (+40 nights) , Catania and Syracuse (+28), Cagliari , Brindisi and Enna (+23)».
For the regional capitals, the summer days (on average 114 in 2021) mark an anomaly compared to the 1981-2010 period of about +13 days, while tropical nights (on average 54) show higher anomalies for Naples ( +37 nights), Milan (+34), Rome (+24) and Cagliari (+23).
At a national level, underlines Istat, in 2021, the average annual temperature of the 109 provincial capitals (calculated as the average of the values recorded in the observed meteorological stations) was approximately +15.6°C, a value in line with the average for the decade 2006-2015. And there are 49 cities affected by an increase in the average temperature compared to that decade, Catania (+2.1°C) in the lead followed by Enna (+1.3), Agrigento and Caltanissetta (+1.1) and Forlì ( +1).
Sardinia also mentioned with regard to days without rain : «For the 109 provincial capitals, in 2021 the days without rain are up by +5 compared to the average value for 2006-2015 (281 days). The consecutive days without rain are on average 26 (in line with the average value for 2006-2015), more numerous for Naples (19 days), Cagliari (12) , Campobasso and Trieste (9)».
