WWF asks the Region of Sardinia to stop hunting throughout the island .

"The meteoclimatic data - reads a note from the animal rights association - show that 2022 is an extremely critical year for fauna , given the very high maximum temperatures and prolonged periods of drought that have determined a serious stress situation in many ecosystems . To aggravate the picture, already critical in itself, is added the increase in the number of fires and the surface covered by the fire. Extreme situations that are creating stress and suffering especially for the noble sedentary fauna such as rabbit, Sardinian hare and Sardinian partridge species object of hunting in Sardinia ".

The note was sent to the Regional Councilor for Environmental Defense Gianni Lampis, to highlight that "that the hunting disturbance resulting from the search for wild species in severe climatic conditions negatively affects the status and dynamics of populations as stress induces animals to a high energy consumption in search of escape routes, significantly reducing the time dedicated to feeding. Water scarcity is another risk factor because it forces animals to concentrate in confined areas for watering, thus becoming easily catching subjects ".

From the WWF Italy for Sardinia, they recall that "Ispra already in 2012 noted that hunting planning based on sustainability criteria in each territorial management unit is necessary for the three species through standardized monitoring of the population, the estimate of the increase annual profit, the drafting of a sampling plan commensurate with the dynamics of the population and the adoption of sampling control mechanisms that allow compliance with the planned plan. In the absence of the management elements just mentioned , hunting should not be allowed . 10 years - denounce the WWF - we must bitterly note that none of the criteria have been met. There are still no territorial management units (ATCs) since Sardinia is the only Italian region that has not yet equipped itself with a Wildlife Plan " .
