Alghero Initiative, led by President Francesco Sasso, is focusing attention on the Torre della Polveriera, whose condition has reportedly reached a red alert level of degradation. In a statement, the association emphasizes the seriousness of the situation, "close to collapse," as evidenced by the numerous signs of structural distress visible throughout the tower, located along the Pigafetta Bastions.

The risk of collapse is attributed to " prolonged and unjustifiable inertia ," with potentially irreparable consequences for one of the city's most significant historical assets. Making the situation even more alarming is the fact that the area remains freely accessible, with no restrictions or safety measures in place. Citizens and tourists continue to walk beneath a potentially unstable structure, exposing themselves to a concrete risk to their safety.

The Alghero Initiative directly involves the Municipality of Alghero, which has the duty to protect its historical heritage and ensure public safety. Hence the request for immediate and no longer postponable intervention: securing the area with shoring and immediately closing it down to prevent irreparable consequences.
