A debate is raging over the temporary relocation of the Addiction Service (SERD) from its premises on Via degli Orti to the emergency medical center at Marino Hospital. Christian Mulas, president of the Alghero Municipal Health Commission, has already requested "formal and detailed clarifications" from the Sassari Local Health Authority (ASL) management. According to Mulas, the decision raises organizational, health, and social issues.
The Serd, he emphasizes, "is not just a medical service, but an integrated social and healthcare facility" that requires a dedicated local context, capable of guaranteeing hospitality, confidentiality, and a non-stigmatizing approach. Implementing it in a hospital setting, he points out, would risk accentuating discomfort and resistance among users , as well as creating potential logistical difficulties related to the distance from the city center.
The President also emphasizes the reform of community care, which aims to integrate services into community centers and health districts, strengthening their proximity. This issue will be the focus of the next Health Commission, already convened, for further consideration in the interests of the community and the most vulnerable groups.
