The world of Sardinian sailing asks the Region to do everything possible not to let the regattas of the America's Cup World Series escape.

The appeal comes from the Avas Armatori Vela d'Altura Sardegna association with a letter to the regional councilor for Tourism Gianni Chessa, also published on social media: « We invite you to reconsider this important opportunity for economic growth and we urge you to restart contacts with the organization in order to find a solution so that the event can take place . We offer our willingness to meet you as soon as possible if you deem a discussion or any form of support useful".

The renunciation of the Region had come after the officialization of the Spanish regatta of Vilanova as the first stage . For Chessa, the agreement stipulated that the debut should be in Sardinia.

«The renunciation of the AC World Series - explains the president Carlo Cottiglia -, the most important sailing event of the year which would have guaranteed a fundamental tourist return for the island's economy, is the greatest missed opportunity to have the international, Cagliari as the best location in the Mediterranean for the sport of sailing in all its forms».

Hence the appeal to Chessa: " Think again , we are sure to interpret the thought of organisations, associations, sailing schools, companies and enthusiasts from the world of sports, amateur and cruise sailing, which together gather tens of thousands of people".

An invitation to the councilor to go ahead «whatever the motivation, convinced that every obstacle can be overcome and a compromise reached if the interests of all of Sardinia are put first» .
