The Region is calling, there is no onslaught of foreign doctors and nurses

Few doctors and nurses in Sardinia. And it won't be foreign professionals who will plug the gaps in the island's hospital staff.

There are twenty white coats in the list drawn up by the regional health department which includes surgeons who have obtained the qualification outside Italy who have made themselves available because they "possess the requirements for the temporary exercise" of their activity in the 'Island: data dates back to the end of last month, when the last update was made. The list hasn't expanded much compared to the previous one, which dates back to June 12: then, just over a month after the call was announced, there were 16.

The list of nurses ready to line up in the ward, on the other hand, is still at the beginning of April: just 16 names appear.

Most of the nurses (they are all women) are already resident in Sardinia and are of Romanian origin. But there is also a Filipina, two Ukrainians, a Serbian, an Argentine and even a Sardinian living in London.

Among the doctors, however, the number of Italian-Argentine natives stands out: there are 9, almost half.
