When the purpose is the protection of the sea, the agreement between two bodies is almost inevitable.
The project called "Spazzamare", financed by the Ministry of the Environment, has led to the twinning between the two protected marine areas of the Asinara National Park and Miramare of Trieste.
The commitment is to carry out the recovery of illegal or abandoned fishing gear and the collection of floating waste, in particular plastics, and the cleaning of the sea thanks to a special boat.
The "Spazzamare" boat operates in the waters for the reclamation of waste deposit areas, subsequently stored in a container located in Cala Reale. The next step allows the conferment of waste thanks to the assignment of the service to specialized companies that provide for the definitive disposal. Over 5,000 kilos of plastic are removed annually for a volume of over 80 cubic metres.
These activities are also part of environmental education programs shared with the protected marine area of Miramare and carried out by the exclusive guides of the Asinara Park in collaboration with local school groups.
In Porto Torres, the three days of work to finalize the program of activities for the year 2024 have just ended. The directors of the two Marine Protected Areas, Vittorio Gazale and Maurizio Spoto and the representatives Stefania Pisanu and Aldo Zanello took part 'Asinara and Silvia Cao and Lisa Peratoner of the Miramare Amp.
The work also saw the participation of the head teacher of the Nautical Institute of Porto Torres, Daniele Taras. The idea is to have the students of the "Paglietti" and of Trieste collaborate in the actions envisaged by the Framework Directive on the Strategy for the marine environment - Marine Strategy, aimed in particular at monitoring marine waters through the detection of microplastics in the sea and the census of beached waste.
