The new section of the SS 195 Sulcitana, which connects Capoterra to Sarroch, has been inaugurated, an important innovation for connections in Southern Sardinia.

With a total investment of 160 million euros, including lot 3 opened in 2020, the new road artery will help streamline traffic along the southern coast and improve access to Pula, Villa San Pietro and other municipalities in the area.

The inauguration took place around 5 pm, after the blessing of the parish priest Don Gianni, in the presence of many representatives of Anas, directors of the works and mayors of the municipalities involved. The completion of the work, with the opening of the section up to Macchiareddu, is scheduled for March 2025.

"It's a big step forward but it's not enough," said the mayor of Capoterra, Beniamino Garau. "It will be my job and the administration's job to manage this innovation and any risks."

Angelo Dessì, mayor of Sarroch, added: "An important step, but we need to do more. The vehicular traffic in our area is significant and often overlaps with tourist traffic."

Marina Madeddu, mayor of Villa San Pietro, also expressed concern about safety: «I am especially concerned about my fellow citizens who travel the road to reach Cagliari for work, and about the safety of the roads».

On the tourism front, the mayor of Pula, Walter Cabasino, commented: «From Elmas to Pula, it used to take about an hour and a quarter; this new artery will reduce the journey by at least twenty minutes, allowing tourists to reach us more easily».
