Two illuminated pedestrian crossings are already in operation: in the very busy via Budapest and via Carlo Felice. In choosing the streets, the Municipality of Sassari has taken into account the reports of citizens who ask for greater safety when crossing the street .

In June 2021, the municipal council approved the technical-economic feasibility project for around 370 thousand euros . The works were entrusted to the TecnoPA company of Sassari, specialized in the construction, management and maintenance of traffic light systems and other traffic equipment.

The illuminated crossings in via Poligono, via Pirandello, viale Porto Torres, via Predda Niedda and via Coppino, in addition to the traffic lights in via De Martini (in the hamlet of Villa Gorizia) which will be activated in days, as soon as the horizontal signs are completed.

After years of reports from the school management of the Villa Gorizia institute in via De Martini , a pedestrian call traffic light was also installed, together with a protected pedestrian path, to allow the school students to cross safely.

The mini-roundabout between via Garavetti and via Abozzi is also included in the Road Safety Plan, the works of which started in recent days. At that point a high accident rate was detected and for this reason the municipal administration wanted to include it in the project. The works have just begun and involve the construction of a surmountable mini-roundabout which allows for better priority management and a reduction in travel speed . This is an intervention that will have further applications in the city, as envisaged in the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PUMS).

In the coming months, the construction site for a luminous pedestrian crossing will also start at another school: the Canopoleno in via Luna e Sole.
