Drug dealing in downtown Cagliari: a 25-year-old Algerian man was arrested, and a 20-year-old man, also originally from Algeria, was reported at large . Police operations to combat widespread crime continue in downtown Cagliari, where the Flying Squad is intensifying drug enforcement.

The operation represents a development of an operation launched last September 22nd in Piazza Matteotti, which led to the arrest of an Algerian minor found in possession of narcotics and Rivotril tablets. On that occasion, during a stakeout, the Falcons had observed the 25-year-old making several alleged drug sales. However, when the officers arrived, the young man had managed to escape.

The search continued, and yesterday, investigators, working with three motorcycle crews, once again located and identified the young man. Stopped and subjected to a search, the 25-year-old was found in possession of several doses of hashish, 27 Lyrica capsules, and 22 Rivotril tablets, containing clonazepam, an active ingredient listed among the controlled substances. Officers also found €47 in cash .

At the time of the check, the young man was with another 20-year-old Algerian citizen, also an asylum seeker. The latter, upon seeing the officers, fled. He was caught and apprehended shortly thereafter, and during the removal he allegedly disposed of four blister packs containing a total of 56 Lyrica capsules , which were immediately recovered by officers. Based on the evidence gathered, the 25-year-old was arrested. The 20-year-old was charged with receiving stolen goods in relation to the recovered medications. The Flying Squad will continue its checks in downtown Cagliari in the coming days.
