Named after the historian Enrico Costa who carried out the recovery and reorganization of the so-called Ancient Archive of Republican, Aragonese, Spanish and Piedmontese Sassari up to 1848, the Municipal Historical Archive now opens the Library to the public, established in October 2023 as a specialist library.
Starting Tuesday, January 7, the Library in the building on Via Insinuazione will be accessible thanks to a welcoming consultation room with computer stations. The hours for the public are Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 13:00 and Tuesday and Thursday from 15:00 to 18:00.
Citizens and scholars can consult support and in-depth texts on the history of Sassari, its administrative, economic, political, social and cultural life. The bibliographic heritage is constantly growing and has been enriched with books regarding particular aspects of the city, the surrounding area and Sardinia in general, in addition to a special section dedicated to issues related to archives.
Of particular interest are the book collections of personalities from the city's cultural world such as Pompeo Calvia, donated to the Archive and now finally accessible to citizens.
The library adheres to the National Library Service (Sbn, the network of Italian libraries promoted by the Ministry of Culture) and participates in the Polo Sbn of the Sardinia Region. All the books owned by the Historical Archive library are available on the regional online catalogue BiblioSar.
