State-of-the-art sports facilities, a new nursery school, a cycle / pedestrian path, a completely renovated fountain with spectacular plays of light and a parking area that will also allow disabled people to safely reach the Emilio Lussu Library. This and more with the adoption by the Metropolitan City of Cagliari of the Implementation Plan of the Monte Claro Park , expected for almost two decades, and the recent approval of the Municipal Council of Cagliari.

The redevelopment of the city's green lung located between via Liguria and via Cadello thus becomes a reality, including multiple restyling interventions.
"The Monte Claro Park is a jewel not only from an environmental point of view but also from a cultural and social point of view, located in a strategic point of the city and much loved by Cagliari and beyond, which is why we immediately worked to try to improve its fruition and now we are beginning to reap the fruits of the work carried out in these two and a half years ", explains the metropolitan mayor Paolo Truzzu, who together with the metropolitan councilor delegated to Heritage Alessandro Balletto and the councilor for Planning, Urban Development and Public Green Municipality of Cagliari Giorgio Angius presented the projects to the press this morning during a traveling tour in the park. “We are developing further ideas, also thanks to a constant collaboration between the Metropolitan City and the Municipality”.
SPORTS FACILITIES - The interventions, for which 2.5 million euros have been allocated, financed with POR FESR and PNRR funds, will concern the renovation of all the existing sports facilities located within the park and the creation of new ones, with the 'goal of integrating practicable activities in order to broaden the audience of users and improve accessibility by athletes and their companions. A specific project is dedicated to the functional adaptation of the skating rink . Four tennis courts and four padel courts will then be built from scratch, with adjoining changing rooms, which will be added to the 5 soccer fields present (one 11-a-side, 3 7-a-side football, one 5-a-side football). The works will start in 2023 and will be completed by 2026 .

NURSERY - The new nursery, which will cost 3 million euros financed with resources from the Development and Cohesion Fund, will be able to accommodate about 70 children and will be equipped with reserved parking, a kitchen with canteen and a large outdoor park . The building will be built in compliance with current regulations and will be easily accessible from the entire metropolitan area thanks to its strategic position. The works will start in 2023 and will end in 2024 .

LIBRARY SQUARE AND CYCLOPEDONAL TRACK - This intervention includes two distinct activities. The maintenance works of the square in front of the Metropolitan Library will include the repaving of the area and the safety of the parking lots , in order to make the Villa Clara structure more accessible to citizens who use the library services, and in particular to the disabled. The cycle / pedestrian path will allow an internal connection to the park between the entrance of via Cadello and the Cittadella della Salute, and then connect to the already existing cycle paths that lead to other urban parks and neighborhoods. The total allocation is 511 thousand euros , with funds from the PNRR. The works will start in 2023 and will be completed by 2026 .

FOUNTAIN REDEVELOPMENT - With its own funds, the institution will start the redevelopment of the central fountain , the distinctive symbol of Monte Claro, as early as the end of 2022. A new filtration and chlorination system will be built and a lighting system and water jets will be set up. The intervention, which will cost 390 thousand euros , will also include the reclamation of the pond , already in progress. The works will be completed in 2023 .

OTHER INTERVENTIONS - In addition to the projects already started, the Metropolitan City is developing other interventions still under study. Among these, a design competition aimed at identifying a new vision of the connection between the Monte Claro Park and the city through a modification of the current fence, the reconversion of the multipurpose room located inside the park into a multimedia room at the service of the citizen. and the creation of the smart grid, an intelligent management system for the electricity grid. This project, in particular, involves the construction of an integrated photovoltaic system, to be installed on the canopies covering the parking lots, for the production of energy for the offices and libraries of the Metropolitan City.
