Smiling and proud, she holds the pillow embroidered with the names of all her grandchildren. A new centenarian in Oristano. Mrs. Orsola Saiu has blown out her first hundred candles.
Born in Arbus on September 26, 1926, and adopted by Oristano, Mrs. Orsola passionately worked as an elementary school teacher, first in Ingurtosu and then in Iglesias. A mother of seven daughters, she exemplified independence and professional freedom, successfully balancing family and work.

She instilled in her daughters and her students fundamental values such as sharing, generosity, honesty, and determination, always with affection, but also with firmness and authority when necessary . She was a role model for her husband Antonio and the entire family, teaching them that culture, study, and financial independence are the most important tools for achieving one's place in life.
Even today, she retains a great zest for life and a role model for her extended family, which includes her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. "It's clear that my maternal grandmother is as tough, good, and generous as the centuries-old oak trees of our island of Sardinia," comments her grandson Alberto Cauli, "and all of us grandchildren often say to ourselves that we wish we could reach her age with the same mental clarity."
Longevity is a hallmark of Mrs. Orsola: her sisters all lived to be over 95, while her mother, Virginia, reached 98.
