The control activities of the Molentargius Regional Park by the Forestry Corps have been intensified.
The Cagliari Station, which is located within the protected area, is focusing on protecting the nesting of the permanent colony of pink flamingos, symbol of the Park. The object of attention are, in particular, the dangers deriving from the presence of stray or wandering dogs which, in some way, could compromise nesting.
Thanks to the collaboration with the Municipalities of Cagliari and Quartu, 8 strays were identified and transferred to shelters. Furthermore, 8 fines were issued against the owners of wandering dogs without a leash.

Another front for intervention is the fight against the abandonment of waste and its illegal incineration.
Sixteen people are under investigation for abandoning waste, resulting in the seizure of an area of 3 hectares within the Park, where numerous tires had been accumulated.
Advanced technologies such as video surveillance, camera traps and drones were used to identify illegal landfills and those responsible for the crimes.
In particular, a truck was immortalized which, having entered the Park, unloaded waste along the road and then left the protected area with its container emptied.

One person was reported for negligent arson due to the incineration of waste which triggered a fire likely to expand, which was promptly put out thanks to the intervention of the Forestry Station staff.
During these activities, 7 wrecks of abandoned cars were recovered and removed, with administrative fines of over 8,000 euros borne by the owners.
«The Molentargius regional park represents an extraordinary naturalistic heritage with significant biodiversity, often threatened by strong anthropic pressure from the surrounding urban areas. This situation requires intense control activity by the Forestry Corps, but it is not sufficient - is the appeal -. The active involvement of all citizens, their sensitivity in avoiding illicit behavior and in complying with fire prevention regulations is fundamental."
