Pope Francis "is a particularly dear figure also for us oenologists and wine producers, beyond what he represented for all humanity" .
This was stated in a note published on his Facebook profile by Andrea Pala, a Sardinian winemaker who has been committed to promoting native vines for years.
The Pontiff, he states, "has always shown a deep appreciation for wine, considering it a symbol of joy and conviviality. He has always underlined the importance of ethical and sustainable production , which respects the environment, work and promotes healthy consumption habits".
Pala also underlines how Bergoglio's commitment has also translated into concrete initiatives, «such as the 'Borgo Laudato Si'' project in Castel Gandolfo, where vines with fungus-resistant varieties are being cultivated, involving vulnerable people in a perspective of fair and sustainable agriculture».
For this reason, concludes the winemaker, «beyond all that has been said about the extraordinary figure of Pope Francis, I would also like to remember him for an aspect unknown to most people ».
