«The situation in the Marina district of Cagliari has become unsustainable . During the weekend and not only, the area becomes " no man's land ", occupied by hordes of kids who use this part of the city as if it were their home garden. For me they are like locusts : they come, they strip and they go away. And we pay the consequences."

Sandra Orrù does not hide her frustration, at the head of the committee " Let's open the windows to the Marina ", which has been fighting for some time to give a voice to the many Cagliari residents who are asking for greater security.

FEAR AND VANDALS - "Here we are very afraid , both day and night, and the situation has gotten worse over the years ", continues Orrù. «By now we don't feel safe walking the streets in our neighborhood and often the inconvenience reaches right in front of the door and on the facades of our houses. Writings and dirt reign in every alley. To keep the wall or door clean we should go over the paint every week. But the costs are unsustainable , time is short and, in any case, the problem would remain, given that there is no time to cancel a vandalistic sign that a new one is immediately made », a resident comments bitterly.

DRUNK KIDS - "And we're tired of seeing – as early as 2 pm – 12-year-old kids with bottles of spirits in their hands", underlines Raimondo Carboni , owner of a bar in via Savoia . Who adds: « We often have to call for help . And then it's up to us to clean up the road with the pressure washer. Not to mention that, given the degradation, people are not encouraged to come to the neighborhood and for us traders it is an economic loss ». However, the situation could soon improve with the establishment of the new nightlife " monitoring group ", wanted by the prefect of Cagliari, Giuseppe De Matteis .

The initiative was born following complaints , complaints and reports from residents of the historic center districts . The first meeting is scheduled for next week. The action plan provides, in addition to resorting to the police, the preparation of new strategies to manage the nightlife in the area. Thus, to discuss the possible solutions to adopt, there will be not only the Police Headquarters, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza and Municipal, but also the representatives of the trade associations, and the representatives of the neighborhood committees. " Should we wait for the new prefect for this news?" Perhaps. But we are happy ,” says another resident. “We are very confident and appreciate the signal. No one has done it before."

Even Sandra Orrù says she is confident : « Expectations are excellent . We had asked for a meeting with the prefect for several months, we were listened to ». But we need to move from words to deeds : «For now we are trying to buffer the situation but what has been done, for now, is not enough. Here social unease reigns. The solution to the problem can't be found if you don't network. We have to unite and play as a team."

Enrico Marras , of the "Noise No Thanks" committee , for his part, draws attention to another problem, noise pollution : "The measures taken by ARPA from 2008 to today always show that the "levels of attention" have been exceeded , values within which health disturbances can also occur. The situation, especially on Fridays and Saturdays is unsustainable. Suffice it to say that in Corso Vittorio Emanuele the company commissioned by the municipality detected 81 db, a value of 1000 votes over the legal value. But in all the neighborhoods the limits have been exceeded.

«To improve the situation - adds Marras - it would only be necessary to apply the regulations on noise pollution that already exist. We don't row against locals and their business, quite the contrary. They are vital to the neighborhood. But they too must act within the law». For this reason, concludes Marras, «we ask the municipality, the mayor and the councilors what happened to the noise remediation plan, which has disappeared. We wait".
