The journey of Sant'Efisio: this is how the simulacrum of the warrior martyr is transferred
The soldiers of the "Gennargentu" Transmission Battalion are engaged
The journey of Sant'Efisio began yesterday , one of the most heartfelt religious holidays in Sardinia and in particular in Cagliari. The simulacrum of the warrior martyr was anchored to the eighteenth-century campaign wagon by the soldiers of the "Gennargentu" Transmission Battalion and then transferred with an army vehicle from Giorgino (Villa Ballero) to Capoterra (La Maddalena Spiaggia), a stretch where - after the construction of the canal port which interrupted the old road to Pula -, the traditional walking route is suspended.
The statue is transported to Nora in compliance with the vow made by the municipality to free the city of Cagliari from the plague of 1656.
On May 4, the day of Sant'Efisio's return to the church of Stampace, the soldiers themselves will be responsible for transferring the statue from Maddalena Spiaggia to Villa Ballero.
This is the second time, after 2019, that the "Gennargentu" takes part in this event.
