The first promotion comes at eighty years old, between tears and joy: «I deserved it»

At the end of the test, everyone is moved. The family members, the teachers, the little students of 1C, their parents. And of course Lucia Piras, known to everyone as Mrs. Lucia, who has fulfilled a dream, closing a circle that has lasted several decades.

Because at 5:30 pm yesterday, at the primary school in via Caboni of the Giovanni Lilliu Comprehensive Institute, eighty-eight-year-old Mrs. Lucia passed the aptitude test for access to the second grade, obtaining the promotion that had eluded her when she was a child growing up in war and poverty, with a great desire to learn but without ever being helped.

Four failures in the first grade, humiliating punishments, until she was no longer sent to school and had to help with housework and in the fields. Without ever forgetting those moments in the classroom, with regret weighing on her heart.
