The controversy and debate over the transfer of prisoners under the 41 bis regime to Sardinia continues unabated.
"The objective fact is that inmates from Badu 'e Carros have been transferred to other facilities, further increasing the overcrowding that in many cases was already there," says Giovanna Serra , inmate guarantor at the Nuoro prison. The entire second section of the penitentiary has been cleared. Approximately sixty inmates have already been transferred. In the next few hours, however, all inmates could leave Nuoro. Initially, simple renovations will be carried out. The reality, however, is different and worrying, with three Sardinian penitentiaries designated to house only inmates under the 41 bis regime: Cagliari, Sassari, and Nuoro.
Sardinian prisons are in turmoil, after the information revealed by Undersecretary Andrea Delmastro during the State-Regions conference. For Nuoro, a dedicated Article 41-bis prison would be a blow, for multiple reasons. It's anything but restorative justice . Pietro Borrotzu, of the “Ut unum sint” cooperative , clarifies: "Anyone still burdened by Article 41 bis cannot access this type of intervention. Yes, it would be a terrible slap in the face for Nuoro."
