The details of the tragedy that took place yesterday afternoon in the countryside of Punta Torretta, in Carbonia, have yet to be clarified. What is certain for now is that Fausto Congiu , an 81-year-old from Giba residing in the hamlet of Villarios, died after being surrounded by a swarm of bees .

The pensioner was arranging the beehive on a farm, beekeeping was a hobby for him. Suddenly he collapsed to the ground, around him the swarm. He was wearing overalls but this didn't prevent him from being attacked. When someone realized what was happening, they raised the alarm and the fire brigade, a medical ambulance and the carabinieri arrived on the spot.

For Congiu, however, there was nothing to be done.

There are two hypotheses underlying the death.
