There is no agreement between the Region and the Ministry of the Environment and the Asinara National Park is still without a president. It's been like this for seven years now.

The office of the current extraordinary commissioner, Gabriela Scanu, expiring on March 2, could be extended, or Rome could decide to give the mandate to another commissioner pending the appointment of an official guide.

Appointed three years ago, on 26 February 2020, the commissioner's office is renewed every six months. She'll take care of keeping the organization going, waiting for politics to find an agreement on this or that name. Backed by a park director, Vittorio Gazale, and by the now skeleton staff, she administers a 52 square kilometer national park without a governing council, which expired on January 15, 2020.

After the last president, Pasqualino Federici, from 5 April 2016 to 29 February 2020 the functions of president were performed by the deputy, Antonio Diana, elected within the governing body. Since then, the park has been devoid of governance capable of boosting tourism development and the planning of an invaluable resource for the North-West of Sardinia which must be protected and valued. The president of the Region, Christian Solinas in his last meeting with the president of the Asinara special commission, Bastianino Spanu, had underlined that among the objectives of the junta "there is that of speeding up the procedure for appointing the president and the directors of the Park Authority, in accordance with the Ministry of the Environment".
