The art of embroidery by Consuelo Todde: «Needle and thread my rebirth»
The Cagliari artisan talks about her passion for sewing and ancient crafts in the second episode of the "Hands of Sardinia" format, signed by Unionesarda.itIt is told in front of the camera for the first time, overcoming emotion and fear. «Mine is a story of redemption . Growing up in San Michele «among the greyness of the big buildings», Consuelo dreamed of a life full of creativity, art and fashion. With the first works, already from a very young age, the possibility of leaving - after years - in Milan to learn refined embroidery techniques following "starred" teachers. «After the advanced training courses, I returned to the island and I followed my passion. I started with the stalls, then my studio arrived», she explains with satisfaction.
Today Consuelo offers her clients works that are based on particular techniques such as the French one of “ luneville ” which «compared to that with the needle, allows rapid application of beads and sequins. The work requires a rectangular frame onto which a fabric is fixed – mainly silk organza – which is embroidered on the reverse», explains the artisan. And, learn the basics, «there is no limit to the imagination. Today I also "paint" on fabric, one of my "strong points" is the faithful reproduction of the most famous works of art on fabric. My favorite artists? Definitely Van Gogh and Monet. And customers appreciate this kind of creations ».
