In September, Anna Laura Pilia should have sat among the desks of the fifth grade. Her classmates will not find her in the classroom, in the building on via Monsignor Virgilio.
Anna Laura became an angel on a sunny afternoon that was supposed to be a relaxing one. The 10-year-old girl from Tortolì lost her life in the waters of the port of Arbatax : she died while she was taking a sailing lesson, the sport she loved. She was the daughter of the historic head physician of the Radiology department of the Nostra Signora della Mercede hospital in Lanusei and former president of the Province of Ogliastra, Bruno Pilia.
According to an initial reconstruction, around 5 pm yesterday the little girl was taking a sailing lesson, organized by the Nautical Club, when the optimist, a monohull equipped with a single sail on which Anna Laura was, capsized and she ended up in the water, drowning, despite wearing a life jacket. It is likely that she hit her head on the small boat and may have gotten caught in a rope that kept her under the surface. Rescue was immediate: the 118 operators tried for a long time to revive her. But the attempts proved to be in vain.
The body of little Anna Laura has been seized by the prosecutor of Lanusei, Giovanna Morra. The autopsy will be performed today at 10.
