Cold flows and high pressure collide. The result: in the coldest hours the risk of frost increases and the civil protection alert is issued for Sardinia.

«Across much of Europe», we read in the bulletin issued by the operations center in via Biasi in Cagliari, «a well-established high pressure field is expanding even on the ground. A cyclonic system is instead present over central-northern Africa.

Cold air of polar origin", meanwhile, "flows towards eastern Europe, to then be recalled by the African cyclonic system with flows from the north-east, in particular over southern Italy and the surrounding seas".

The combined action of the cold flows and the high pressure field "can determine conditions favorable to frosts in the coldest hours of the day".

The time slot of greatest risk, when there will be a "general drop in temperatures", is indicated between midnight and 10am tomorrow, 19 December, especially in the internal areas of the island.
