They acted in retaliation "against the landowners in the area." This is the belief of rangers from the Forestry Corps of the Investigative Unit of Iglesias and the stations of Sant'Antioco, Carbonia, and Iglesias, who in recent days arrested Maurizio Porceddu and Pierangelo Serra, two unemployed men from San Giovanni Suergiu, aged 57 and 48. The two were caught while attempting to start a fire along Provincial Road 77, in a large agricultural area with numerous businesses and homes.

Porceddu and Serra, who had been followed for some time, had been stopped in a car and searched: they had fuses.

The Forestry Corps' monitoring of the area was crucial in identifying those responsible for this serious act. Through patrols conducted by personnel from local departments and the Environmental and Forestry Police Investigative Unit (Nipaf), coordinated by the Iglesias Operations Room, they intervened at the fire site, which was quickly extinguished.

After the validation, the two were placed under house arrest. Porceddu, according to investigative reports, is a repeat arsonist: in 2023, he was arrested for allegedly setting at least five fires at a business. The reason: disagreements with the owners. Despite being identified and facing specific charges, he violated the precautionary measure and was taken to UTA. He was recently released. And he tried again.
