Hundreds of taxi drivers blocked via Roma in Cagliari as part of the strike day organized by the national trade unions.

At the center of the protest is the Competition Bill, accused of further deregulating the sector in favor of multinationals.

The taxi drivers left Elmas airport at 9 am to converge in via Roma, up to the regional council building, where a meeting was requested with the president of the Sardinian Assembly Michele Pais and with the regional councilor for transport Giorgio Todde.

The protest was also joined by taxi drivers from other parts of the island.

"We are not against competition as such - explains Angelo Marabotto of Consorzio Taxi Amico - but we want the public service to be recognized, we would not want episodes of unfair competition to occur".
