Six businesses have been suspended and fines of €174,000 have been imposed for workplace health and safety violations . This is the result of investigations by the Carabinieri of the Sassari Labor Inspectorate , in the first six months of 2025, with the support of local Territorial Force stations.
The military's intervention focused on 53 companies in the province, in the restaurant and retail sectors, as well as in the agricultural, industrial, and construction sectors . 226 positions were examined, 47 of which were found to be irregular, often due to undeclared work, with men and women without contracts and, in some cases, without the mandatory minimum wages and regulations required by law.
Seventeen companies were found in breach of health and safety regulations in the workplace . Risk assessment documents were missing, and training for employees and designated company personnel was lacking . A company doctor was not appointed, meaning no medical examinations were carried out to assess suitability for the duties offered, and no supervision was carried out on the use of personal protective equipment. Necessary first aid and emergency medical care measures were also failed, and violations regarding the proper use of machinery were also reported.
The seriousness of the breaches led, in some cases, to the suspension of operations, such as in a manufacturing company where workers had equipment that did not comply with safety requirements and was unsuitable for the work being performed. According to the Carabinieri, the shutdown system had been tampered with to allow it to be used even with the doors open while the machinery was still operating, thus creating a serious risk for the workers.
Eleven violations of workers' rights were found because video surveillance systems had been installed in eleven companies without legal authorization . Inspections will continue in the coming months by the Nil, in collaboration with the Sassari provincial Carabinieri command.
