All the commitments made in the road map agreed with the European Union for the fight against African swine fever have been respected. And the end of the restrictions for Sardinia is closer .
The Undersecretary of Health Andrea Costa makes it known: "Today a further and decisive step has been taken in the path of exit from the emergency, the EU confirms its willingness to review the restrictions", he said after meeting the Directorate General of Health and Food Safety of the European Commission, represented, among others, by the Director of EU Veterinary Services Bernard Van Goethem.
The Commission should already comment on the proposal in December “which will allow a large part of Sardinia to return to the white zone” .
Green light therefore to the resumption of exports , excellent news for the inhabitants of the island and all the entrepreneurs who for years have been suffering from the restrictive measures that have hit the sector.
The data and technical reports presented by the Region, Asl and the Zooprophylactic Institute, explains Costa, "provide robust indications regarding the eradication of the disease thanks to careful and constant active and passive surveillance on the regional territory ".
Again: “I am very satisfied with the progress achieved also with a view to a rapid future recovery of the export of Sardinian pork, putting an end to the embargo”.
THE REGION
"We expect our efforts to be recognized", highlights Sardinian President Christian Solinas, " today our territory can be seen as a model in the fight against swine fever and we are confident in a highly anticipated reopening".
This is “probably the last meeting before the vote to change the current restrictions, we have complied with all the requests made by Brussels through a path that has cost many sacrifices . The cancellation of the embargo is a step that the island has been waiting for for a long time and that must be granted without hesitation ”, says Councilor Mario Nieddu.
