Over 350 controls and 87 fishing inspections, resulting in 6 high administrative offenses for a total amount of over 6,000,000 euros in penalties, as well as around 20 non-compliant fishing gears.

This is the balance of the control operation on the fish products chain carried out under the jurisdiction of the Cagliari Maritime Directorate, and which involved military personnel and naval and land vehicles.

The objective of the operation, in addition to verifying compliance with the traceability of the entire fishing chain, is the execution of cross-checks on fresh product fishing, in particular in this period of regional technical shutdown of the units authorized to trawl fishing.

Among the most significant violations found, deficiencies in the rules relating to labeling and traceability with consequent seizure and destruction of fish products.

The control activity carried out at sea by the Coast Guard patrol boats was also intense, whose activity focused on compliance with the technical shutdown of fishing vessels, still in progress, and the rules relating to the correct use of fishing equipment.

The compliance of the gear with ministerial specifications, in fact, guarantees the selectivity of fishing, preventing indiscriminate catches to protect the fish fauna.

The seizure of numerous artisanal pots, which do not comply with the law, carried out in the waters of the Gulf of Cagliari during the patrol activity should be noted.

The Coast Guard will continue its control activity on the fishing chain both on land and at sea, in order to ensure compliance with the rules relating to the capture and distribution of fish species and, therefore, guaranteeing the constant protection of the consumer, of the fauna. marine, environment and all fishermen and traders in the fishing sector who work in compliance with current regulations.
