The increasing flow of Algerians arriving in Sardinia and the resulting overcrowding of the reception centre and hotspot in Monastir have been the focus of a parliamentary question from the League addressed to the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi .

The Ministry of the Interior is being asked to strengthen the presence of agents in the two Monastir facilities, also involving the Army if necessary.

"Matteo Salvini's work at the Ministry of the Interior in Sardinia, with courage and determination, achieved significant results with a drastic reduction in landings, to the point of, in some periods, eliminating them entirely," declared Alberto Di Rubba, MP and commissioner for the Lega Sardegna, underlining that today the island "is facing a temporary increase in flows along the Algerian route , which is putting pressure on reception facilities and law enforcement."

Expressing his "certainty" that the government will "react" and reduce the number of landings, the MP focused on the situation at the reception centre and the hotspot, which house around 800 people out of a capacity of 300. However, only 15 officers are employed, half the minimum number deemed necessary .

"For this reason, I have asked the Minister of the Interior to evaluate any further intervention necessary to address this phase of increased pressure, including through a strengthening of the police force and, where necessary, adequate support from the army , including in terms of manpower," explains Di Rubba, who calls for "timely" intervention.

It is also necessary to combat irregular departures and make repatriations more effective, because "the Algerian route starts from a country that is not at war and is considered safe." "We are certain," the newcomer concludes, "that the government's work will allow us to overcome this phase and quickly bring landings back to a drastic reduction."
