"Inspection" tour of Sardinian dog shelters by the Five Star Movement MP Susanna Cherchi to assess compliance with animal welfare rules.

"In recent days - in the company of Paolo Bernini, former parliamentarian of the 5 Star Movement and the animal rights activists Antonella Pisanu, Lisa Saba and Rossella Fois - I visited the dog kennel in Macomer, in the province of Nuoro, finding unacceptable conditions and terrible adoption numbers" , says the M5S representative in a note. Adding: "But I also found overcrowding of four-legged guests that does not allow for timely management and adequate health control . I will be sure to inform the Nuoro Public Prosecutor's Office of the discrepancy between the situation described to me by ASL 3 of Nuoro via PEC and the real conditions of the dog kennel. At the same time, I will present a parliamentary question to the Minister of Health so that immediate action is taken to guarantee more acceptable and dignified living conditions for these wonderful creatures ".

For its part, the Municipality of Macomer replied that in the kennel in question "the rules are respected".

Returning to Cherchi, in recent weeks the MP has also submitted a bill for the establishment of a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the phenomenon of stray animals and the management of kennels, catteries and veterinary services of local health authorities .

"The Commission - explains Cherchi - will have the task of drawing up a mapping of kennels and catteries, of verifying whether the managers have convictions or reports for animal abuse or for crimes against property and related to organized crime , of investigating any responsibilities of local administrations and veterinary services of local health companies in cases of mismanagement. It will also have to evaluate the work of the veterinary services themselves, the effectiveness of checks on dogs and cats, the amount of financial resources allocated to them and the commitment to their adoption".
