New restrictions apply to those traveling on state highway 131 near Paulilatino. From today, January 12th, until Wednesday, January 21st, traffic restrictions are in effect on the Paulilatino interchange ramps. "The measure," ANAS clarified in recent days, "is necessary to allow for the installation of crash cushions and motorcyclist safety devices . The entry and exit ramps will be closed alternately in both directions . Traffic heading to Paulilatino can alternatively use the interchange located at km 119."
Therefore, Paulilatino residents in particular will have to wait about ten days and pass through the second Paulilatino junction, the Marzas one. "The closure of the junctions," emphasizes majority group leader Paolo Cadinu, "is a temporary inconvenience, necessary to complete the ongoing work. It was well known; the junctions were in fact reopened early in August to minimize disruption. Now, the second junction must be reached, traveling about an additional kilometer." Cadinu then adds: "Passability is guaranteed, and there's none of the disruption experienced during the two years of construction. These are welcome improvements because they improve the safety of that stretch of road, which has seen so many deaths and very serious accidents over the years."
For a long time, this stretch of road was subject to restrictions to allow for the construction of a new interchange to eliminate the at-grade intersection where many people have died over the years. The work, which began in 2023, involved eliminating the at-grade intersection at km 120, through the construction of new interchange ramps, two roundabouts, and the resurfacing of the road connecting to State Road 131. Work was also carried out on the overpass near the interchange, including new paving, the installation of new safety barriers, and road markings and road markings. The total investment was €10.4 million.
