Cagliari's red zone continues to spark controversy . Police continue to patrol the area between Piazza del Carmine, Piazza Matteotti, and Via Sassari, but incidents, such as a fight between youths, have also been reported.
Carabinieri officers from the Cagliari Carabinieri Mobile Radio Unit responded to Piazza del Carmine to break up the fight, which, according to initial reports, arose from trivial causes. While attempting to identify them, the officers were attacked and pushed. Objects were also reportedly thrown at them. The Carabinieri managed to subdue the attackers and restore calm. The two young men, a 24-year-old and a 32-year-old, both Tunisian, were released on charges of resisting arrest, assault, and threatening a public official.
During checks in the red zone last night, the Carabinieri identified over 30 people . The area will remain under increased surveillance until September 30th, unless the prefecture extends it further.
