It is a boundless heritage contested between the State and the Region , which every day loses pieces crumbled by the passing of time and the elements. Hundreds of buildings and areas scattered between the most impervious hinterland of the Island and the breathtaking coasts: simple warehouses, former barracks, disused fire stations, abandoned lighthouses and sumptuous uninhabited villas. Millions of cubic meters offered for management in recent years to potential private investors but still left without a future.

However, the last five jewels put on display by the State Property Agency in recent days in northern Sardinia have caused a storm and yet another tug-of-war between the Government and the Regional Council , because if there is anyone who should have priority in the management of a building treasure as precious as it is neglected, that, they say from Viale Trento, must be the Region by virtue of its statutory specialty.

The list of state assets in Sardinia is endless: 1,399 properties, very few of which (less than 15%) are available for concession and therefore potentially ready to find an owner, whether public or private. And it is here that a wall of bureaucracy evidently separates dreams from reality.

All the details in the article by Luca Mascia in L'Unione Sarda on newsstands today, also in the online edition.
