Three wonderful and majestic tree specimens of the Public Gardens of Cagliari become part of the regional list of Monumental Trees.

It is a specimen of Gleditsia triacanthos (vulgar name Spino di Giuda unarme, estimated age between 120 and 150 years) and two specimens of Ficus macrophylla (vulgar name Ficus Magnoloide, estimated age between 140 and 150 years).

The Municipal Council has given the green light to the proposal to be forwarded to the Region this week: "The resolution on Friday - commented the Mayor Paolo Truzzu - attributes to the complex of the Public Gardens and the Municipal Art Gallery, an even more historical value for our city and for our region, thanks to the inclusion of the unarmed Thorn of Judas and the couple of Ficus Macrophylla in the list of Sardinian Monumental Trees. Three trees that have lived about a century and a half of Cagliari's history, of the which were majestic silent witnesses and accompanied the games of numerous generations of children ".

"Thanks to this provision, with the inclusion in the list of regional Monumental Trees - added the councilor for public green areas, Giorgio Angius - the three trees will be guaranteed even greater protection than they currently enjoy. based on what is documented by the Forestry and Surveillance Corps of Sardinia and by the Municipal Parks, Green and Fauna Management Service, the specimen of Spino di Giuda inarme is in an advanced stage of senescence and in vegetative conditions to be protected, while the couple of Ficus Magnoloidi is in good condition ".
