After Maìa, Spèra. The title of “Best Vermentino in Italy” remains with the Siddùra winery. Confirmation of the coveted award came at the National “Premio Vermentino” competition, Diano Castello, in Liguria, where Spèra beat the competition of the other 145 competing labels, representing 94 wineries from seven Italian regions.

The Docg – «Vermentino means Sardinia. It is the grape variety that immediately brings us back to our Region», explains Mattia Piludu, general manager of Siddùra . «Gallura, thanks to the Docg, represents the flagship of the island's production. No other Italian region can boast a controlled and guaranteed designation of origin for Vermentino. This specificity guarantees Sardinia, and Gallura in particular, a leading role at a national level in the cultivation and marketing of a wine that, moreover, is growing and is imposing itself with great force on the national market. The award assigned to Spèra confirms the path that our winery is taking, placing the quality of the wines at the center of our strategic choices. The awards we are receiving, in various competitions and with various wines, demonstrate that Sardinia is capable of producing excellent wines, which deserve a prominent place in the Italian wine scene».

The success of Spèra – «With this prestigious recognition», highlights Massimiliano Farci, commercial director of the Cantina , «the goodness of the Siddùra project is confirmed once again, that is, the production of high-quality native Sardinian wines at the right price. In fact, after being rated as the best wine by the historic Berebene guide edited by Gambero Rosso, the Vermentino Spèra has obtained an ever-increasing appreciation from end consumers, both national and international».

Vineyard and cellar – «Spèra», underlines the oenologist Dino Dini , «presents a complex sensorial profile, drawing inspiration from the odorous substances that derive from the grapes, which considerably influence the aromatic component of this wine. The olfactory characteristics of Spèra are directly influenced by the variety of grapes used, vinified in Siddùra, and it is therefore defined as a “varietal” wine. To achieve this result, you have to take care of the vineyards first, then the cellar and work on every little detail to preserve that important baggage of substances that the grapes bring with them and that make this wine, Spèra, unique».

"This award," emphasizes Luca Vitaletti, agronomist at Siddùra , "rewards the work done in the field. The quality of a wine is born in the rows, throughout the entire process of growing Vermentino. Despite the uncertainties arising from climate change, with commitment and constant attention we are able to guarantee the quality of this vine that only in Gallura reaches the highest classification."

The appreciation of Vermentino – The jury of the 2024 edition of the Vermentino Award, chaired by Paolo Massobrio, a well-known journalist and great expert in agricultural economics and food and wine, confirms market trends. «This award, destined for the best Vermentino in Italy», commented Massobrio, «is growing in direct line with the attention that the production world is having for this grape variety. And if it is true that the consumption of white wines has now surpassed that of red wines, it can be said that Vermentino absolutely occupies one of the top positions in consumer appreciation».
