Today, the President of the Region and interim Health Councillor, Alessandra Todde, signed, in the presence of Sardinia's general practitioners' unions, the implementing document that provides additional financial compensation for doctors who choose to work in disadvantaged locations or those with severe healthcare shortages.
The measure is being adopted in implementation of the regional Air-Mmg agreement signed in October 2025. This long-awaited measure should provide concrete solutions to the local area and, together with the gradual infrastructure development of AFTs and community centers, should also have a positive impact on emergency rooms, with reference to minor codes.
"Today we have completed another important step with general practitioners. The agreement provides a €2,000 monthly incentive to doctors who choose to open their own practices in disadvantaged areas of our island," President Todde stated upon signing the agreement. "This measure complements other specific incentives that will be established by local authorities, including mayors and communities. The benefit is expected to last two years and will cover around a hundred disadvantaged locations. Certainly, there is still a long way to go, and this is a step along the way, but the important thing is that we can work together with general practitioners to build a consistent response to citizens' healthcare needs, with the AFTs and new community centers that will need to be filled and have uniform service charters. This will become a point of reference for the region, including through the implementation of the most advanced facilities such as telemedicine, to finally build the connective tissue that is still lacking in our regions," Todde concluded.
