Second case of monkeypox in Sardinia after the one found on a patient of the Holy Trinity hospital in Cagliari , last week.

This time it is a man of about 40 years old , residing in northern Sardinia , who yesterday presented himself at the Infectious Diseases Outpatient Clinic of the Aou in Sassari where he was examined by the doctors of the structure directed by Professor Sergio Babudieri .

The 40-year-old had lesions suggestive of the disease, for this reason the necessary samples were made and sent to the Virology of the Aou of Cagliari which, on Tuesday evening, gave a positive result.

"At the time of the visit - says the director of Infectious Diseases, Professor Babudieri - there were anamnestic, clinical and objective characteristics that led to monkeypox . And the confirmation came from the analyzes carried out by Virology of Cagliari. The patient he is under observation at his home . It is, in fact, a disease which, due to its symptoms, does not require hospitalization or intensive care ".

According to what has been learned from the press agencies, further investigations on other samples received are still underway at the Policlinico di Monserrato.
