A meeting was held in Sinnai at the library headquarters, on the initiative of the Municipality and the Carabinieri, to talk about scams against citizens, the elderly and beyond. The major of the carabnieri Gianni Russo, the lieutenant Stefano Locci and the deputy mayor Barbara Pusceddu were present.
«The scammers – said Major Gianni Russo – often ride the wave of current events, promoting bogus fundraisers to support the cause or contribute to the current emergency. Other times, however, a trivial excuse and a convincing appearance is enough to steal the trust of the intended victim. And it's not about naivety or lightness, because they are people skilled in the art of deception and deception, real 'hunters of the elderly'. Unsuspecting people, middle-aged: they show up well dressed and well-groomed, often in the company of a woman (for a 'reassuring effect'), or a child (to play the card of tenderness). In other cases, they enter the house using presumed professionalism (they are fake INPS employees, gas readers, bank employees) and, thanks to this dreaded qualification, they manage to access all the information regarding money deposits, bank accounts, social security status ».
Lieutenant Locci, commander of the Sinnai station, also illustrated the behavior to adopt when dealing with unknown people. The particularly attentive audience asked many questions, contributing to the success of this meeting. Recently the problem was also illustrated in the church in Sinnai by the deputy commander of the station, marshal Maffei.
