«Luna Rossa has chosen Cagliari as its home. Losing the World Series regatta is huge damage to the city." The mayor Paolo Truzzu waited to see how it would end. And now that the split between the Region and the organizers of the America's Cup is official, he has decided to have his say.
The tone of his words can only be embittered: " We were ready to welcome an event that would have projected us onto the international scene with a high profile, generating an important economic spin-off in the area", says the mayor, "I sincerely regret to hear the official news".
He doesn't go down hard and doesn't attack the Councilor for Tourism, Gianni Chessa, who conducted the negotiations with Ace, organizer of the event, wrecked with the letter sent today by the number one, Grant Dalton.
His party comrades in the regional council did it for him: " We hope that the appropriate clarifications can come from the councilor for tourism and that the causes of the cancellation of the event are technical-legal reasons that cannot be overcome", wrote the exponents of Brothers of Italy, authors of a question addressed to Chessa, who is part of their coalition.
