The 53-year-old Eleonora Galia from Cagliari, founder of the association “The dream of Giulia Zedda”, was awarded today at the Quirinale by President Sergio Mattarella , who in the afternoon presented the honors of the Order of Merit awarded on 24 February «to citizens who have distinguished themselves for activities aimed at combating gender violence, for ethical entrepreneurship, for active commitment even in the presence of disabilities, for commitment in favor of prisoners, for solidarity, for the choice of a life as a volunteer, for activities in favor of social inclusion, legality, the right to health and for acts of heroism".

The ceremony, opened by the speech of the Head of State, was conducted by Marco Carrara.

Maria Eleonora Teresa Galia is an Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic «for the tenacity and constancy with which, in memory of her daughter, she helps sick children by cheering them up with toys and financing investments in the hospital facilities that host them» .

«With tenacity – we read in the reasons – he continues to fulfill the wish of his daughter Giulia who before dying asked to donate toys and to help children less fortunate than her». Little Giulia died in 2018, after 4 years of agony, due to a brain tumor. He was just ten years old and asked his mother to donate all his toys to less fortunate children . Today Eleonora keeps her alive like this.
