«Beware of this sudden increase in sexual harassment complaints. Some have the flavor of revenge and blackmail!": this is the tenor of a post that appeared today on social media. An opinion expressed in the days in which an entire country is shaken by the femicide of Giulia Cecchettin and, on November 25, will celebrate the day against violence against women.

«It could be the thought of any citizen, given the climate we are experiencing, but instead it is one of the representatives of the State: it is Antonio Pitea, former police commissioner of Cagliari and Sassari». The indignant complaint is made by city councilors Francesca Mulas and Giulia Andreozzi (Possibile), with their colleague from the Democratic Party, Camilla Soru.

«Red codes, electronic bracelets, very severe measures and penalties: how many times are we women invited to report violence and harassment to the State that is supposed to protect us?», they ask, « and yet there are many people who belittle, insinuate, don't believe our words , when we really denounce."

The councilors add: «We really cannot believe that whoever was at the head of one of the institutions that on the front line should create protection around women victims of violence», is the disheartened consideration, «can use insinuating phrases , effectively discrediting those who find the courage to report."

There is a lot of work to do in our society to combat violence and abuse, «but the first step must be to eradicate similar beliefs and attitudes on the part of those who work in institutions. Because if victims of violence don't trust those who should protect them, all the work is done in vain."
