"Here I am, I've always been here, now even more so!" With these words, the leader of the Sestu City Council, Michela Mura, accepted the candidacy for mayor in the town's upcoming local elections. Her name was voted on today at the provincial level by Campo Largo, the coalition composed of the Democratic Party, the Five Star Movement, the Left-Green Alliance, Progressives, and Future Left.
"Two months ago, with this statement, I broke a significant personal silence," the newly elected center-left candidate explained on social media. "Today, that presence comes with a valuable commitment: I have agreed to represent the entire Campo Largo district as a candidate for Mayor of Sestu in the upcoming municipal elections. This is a conscious choice, coming after years of uninterrupted political commitment as a city and metropolitan councilor, as well as in the world of associations."
The 50-year-old teacher explained the reasons for her choice. "I accepted because I believe Sestu deserves more than a return to the past: a city that works, that cares for its residents, that plans for the future and achieves results in the present. I'm dedicating myself entirely to a project that will bring us together in a different future, one of growth and new opportunities for everyone. Over the next two months, there will be time and opportunity to listen, share, and plan together the future of Sestu, which begins today! I thank all the political forces, the Campo Largo movements, and every single citizen who, during this time, encouraged me to make myself available to our community."
He will challenge the center-right candidate and leader of the Sardinian Reformers, Michele Cossa, also supported by Forza Italia, Fratelli d'Italia, Sardegna al Centro 20Venti and, apparently, some civic groups.
