Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Sardinia Regional President Alessandra Todde are clashing over renewable energy . The controversy arose during the Prime Minister's response to the Chamber of Deputies, during communications ahead of the European Council, and provoked a harsh reaction from the Sardinian governor.
"I thank Deidda, of the Brothers of Italy, for pointing out one of the many hypocrisies we witness," declared Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni , "namely, the fact that when we come here, opposition parties accuse us of not doing enough on renewables, and then when we try to do more on renewables, they govern regions that block our ability to do more on renewables . I would like to know what the position of the Democratic Party and the Five Star Movement is because that is what we experience every day.
Words to which the President of the Region, Alessandra Todde , responded, contesting the Prime Minister's reconstruction and asserting the regional administration's commitment to the energy transition.
" President Meloni is telling fairy tales about Sardinia . Our Region has allocated over a billion euros of its own resources for renewable energy: it's no blockade. President Meloni perhaps hasn't yet understood that protecting the environment, soil, and landscape is fundamental for Sardinians, and I have received a clear mandate from my fellow citizens: to stop energy speculation, to pursue the energy transition together with my communities, and to prevent Sardinia from continuing to be treated as a land of conquest ," Todde declared in response to the Prime Minister.
The governor also emphasized that the Region is working to achieve its goals for energy production from renewable sources, reaffirming the administration's role in land-use planning decisions.
"We are restoring order to the disorder we inherited from you. And today we are properly planning our territory," he added. "Sardinia will not learn lessons from a government that, while negotiating differentiated autonomy with the northern regions, is instrumentally and indiscriminately targeting all non-aligned regions to strip them of their centrality and power."
