“God, if you exist, save us from politicians,” is a curious prayer written right on the wall around the land where the church of Nostra Signora delle Grazie stands, in via Vittorio Veneto in Sestu. But the town of more than twenty thousand inhabitants has many artists and many others who simply have a great desire to express themselves. The works can be divided into four categories: love writings, political ones, signatures, and actual murals, with some masterpieces .

In the chapter on political writings, the first stage can begin right under the Town Hall; among the pilotis in a blind corner without cameras, numerous messages stand out, from “Better only children than brothers of Italy”, to “The only dangerous minority is the rich”. Despite the proximity to the municipal offices, there are no cameras at this point, even if they could be installed soon.

The floor is not without dirt, a sign of how people often meet here, perhaps at night, to drink, write on the walls, and perhaps do some business on the spot. In via Manzoni a sign announces “Whistle the wind,” and another compares wages to slavery. The dominant political party among the “graffiti artists” appears clear, or perhaps it is the same person, who periodically feels the need to make himself heard.

And, as far as messages of love are concerned, one above all should be mentioned: “Elisabetta F. you made me fall in love”, which adorns, so to speak, the walls of the Giardino di Gabriele, a park dedicated to a child who died in a tragic accident, covering the legal murals that invite respect and friendship. Who knows if she appreciated it.

Those looking for a sort of art gallery can walk the path under the bridge of via Gorizia: between a flag of Palestine, a “poke – ball” that a little faded seems to date back to when the Pokemon video games were just released, twenty years and more ago. And then many many logos and signatures of a thousand colors, to shout to the world «I am here», even if there would be better ways.

The artists of the drawing then made themselves felt: two figures in via Alessandro Volta with a joint of cannabis and strange eyes seem to represent the effects of certain substances. But there is a feast for the eyes in via Dante, where the wall that delimits the sports fields has been decorated with many different murals, the result of the work of many artists with an initiative of the Municipality.

Luca Cocco and Agnes Zimmermann also live in Sestu, and they have decorated Piazza della Libertà and numerous shop shutters. And Pina Serra, together with other friends, has created works of art in some streets. And also Giorgio Loi, who last December created a large mural inspired by the nativity scene in Piazza Pietro Meloni, which he enriched with dozens of sculptures for Christmas, or Valerio Ollargiu, who decorated Vico Bruxelles with a mural that represents a classic village scene. There is always room for those who want to be artists.
