Ignazio Allegri, the Sardinian record holder for blood donations, passed away today at the age of 93. Originally from Cagliari, before moving to Selargius, he donated for half a century. An exceptional story, which led him to 240 donations from the ages of 19 to 69, before having to stop due to reaching the age limit (70). "But if it were up to me, I would continue to do it," he said in an interview with Unione Sarda in 2021.

He began donating blood in 1951, when he was nineteen, following a meeting with the founder of Avis Sardegna Enrico Fois. Membership card number 181, a life dedicated to volunteering and helping others . Which led him to a prestigious recognition: in 2000, the nomination as “ Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic ”, with a parchment signed by the president at the time Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.

In addition to the certificate, Ignazio Allegri also collected a dozen medals awarded to the best donors , with the slingshot and the gold cross. For a generosity that knew no bounds.
