Three empty gas cylinders, left at the foot of a trellis to simulate a rudimentary device. And not far away, a banner with a precise and unequivocal message: "Power plants kill, Terna murders".

Demonstrative act

Tension is growing around the Tyrrhenian Link, Terna's mega project recently approved by the Region which envisages the connection of an underwater power line between Sicily and Sardinia with the construction of an energy conversion station in the countryside of Selargius.

And it is precisely in Selargius that, in recent times, the project has met with greater resistance, so much so that a spontaneous committee has also been set up which has organized yet another demonstration in the square for 22 August. All in the light of the sun, mind you. Legitimate and motivated protests by citizens who put their face on it.

In recent days, however, small episodes are emerging that do not let the police sleep peacefully. In the countryside and on the streets of the area where the new power plants should be built, banners and signs of protest have appeared on several occasions. And now the episode of the fake bomb also comes out.

The find

From the few leaked details it is known that the discovery dates back to a few days ago. A barracelli patrol noticed those three cylinders placed under a high voltage pylon, in the locality of Matta Masinos. An immediate alarm was sent to the carabinieri who requested the intervention of the bomb squad. The latter, once on the spot, ascertained that they were three old empty and harmless cylinders. It was therefore a purely demonstrative gesture, as certified by the banner against Terna hanging not far away, on the concrete wall of an abandoned water tank.

What is certain is that the carabinieri do not underestimate what happened and they also immediately warned the Cagliari prosecutor's office. The investigations were undertaken with the utmost discretion to try to trace the origin of the cylinders. A careful patrol was also carried out around the place of discovery in search of clues to shed light on a disturbing fact - which obviously and rightly so - will not stop the democratic and peaceful protest against the project that many in Selargius do not want.
