The Sassari Guardia di Finanza discovered 4,600 marijuana seedlings ready for harvest in the Sedini countryside, in the Anglona region.
The illicit cannabis cultivation activity , discovered during checks on provincial agricultural areas thanks also to the support of the Cagliari Naval Air Operations Department, was partially hidden by a publicly owned wooded area.
The search by the Guardia di Finanza led to the discovery of a building that was used as a drying and storage facility for the drugs , a transit point before placing them on the market, while another building was used as a home by those responsible for the cultivation.
The perpetrators of the crime have not yet been identified, but along with the discovery of video surveillance equipment, clothing and work equipment were also found on site, from which biological traces can be obtained for possible identification . Irrigation of the entire plantation was ensured by a water system illegally connected to the public electricity grid.
By order of the Sassari Public Prosecutor's Office, the plantation was eradicated and crushed, once the high THC content was determined, thanks to the collaboration of Forestas operators. The quantity of marijuana, over two tons, could have generated a profit of one million euros.
