In the end, the line proposed by the Municipality of Oristano was passed: the mayors of the province decided to reject the Region's guidelines on the school sizing plan. The choice was illustrated by the mayor of the capital Massimiliano Sanna during the provincial conference in which (for the fourth time) school managers and trade unions also took part.

«With the Presidents of the Unions we reiterate a firm no to an accounting application of the
measure - he said -. The loss of school autonomy could be followed by that of
numerous jobs among administrative, technical and auxiliary staff. Similarly, there could be a probable increase in the number of students per class and consequently a loss of jobs among teachers, with an increase in organizational complexity with a further penalization of the most fragile areas, starting from the internal ones".

The document proposes the establishment of a permanent provincial education technical table that monitors demographic trends, enrollments and school dropouts, asks the Region for a bill for the regulation of the educational system and the introduction of curricular teaching of Sardinian language in schools. «The battle is not yet won, but today we have achieved an extraordinary result – observes Sanna -. The unity demonstrated by the mayors on this occasion is an indication of the strong will of the local communities to defend the school system."
