In La Maddalena there is a female wild boar who has been wandering in the Padule area for over a month with a conspicuous wound to her left hind leg, perhaps caused by a shot. And the Lav, the anti-vivisection league that renamed it Maddy, launches an appeal, with an official request to all the competent bodies, from the regional councilorship for the environment, to the park body, up to the forestry: «Save it».

«On 9 February, near some military buildings», is the story of the animal rights activists, «a wild boar was sighted with an evident lameness in the left hind leg caused by a nasty blood-red wound. Probably due to a shotgun.'

The first to take an interest in this animal is Gianpiero, «he lives in one of those buildings and discovers that it is a female and that it shows up in the ground under his house every evening around 5pm».

Saturday 11 February warns the Barracellis, who intervene on Sunday 12 February in the morning. But "the animal is not present and no one shows up again", the story continues. Volunteers Gianpiero, Cristina and Adriana "get an appointment with the director of the La Maddalena Archipelago National Park during which we discuss , look for a possible solution between cage capture and an alternative method of sedation to be able to have her examined by a veterinarian authorized to intervene on wildlife".

After a couple of days a cage is placed which the animal does not even approach by introducing food

«We enter a tunnel with no exit», they say from Lav, «the competent province is Olbia-Tempio but the veterinarian in charge intervenes only once the wild boar has been captured in a cage. It is not clear who should convince it to enter it, much less what can happen to this creature once it is caged, waiting for the vet to arrive from Olbia». Maddy's story begins to circulate on social media.

In La Maddalena and Caprera, Lav explains again, an eradication plan (culling) of wild boar hybrids is underway, «as an alternative to which Lav instead proposed a non-bloody project of immunocontraception. Maddy's life hangs by a thread that gets thinner and thinner. She is suffering, her paw seems compromised, she certainly deserves a dignified life in a safe place where after being treated and all this suffering. Ensuring this unfortunate animal another chance at life would be an act of sensitivity appreciated by the majority of citizens who increasingly express feelings of empathy even towards wild animals".
